Teddy Roosevelt, what a man
From an excerpt of his biography
“On winter evenings in Rock Creek Park, strollers may observe the President of the United States wading pale and naked into the icy Potomac, followed by shivering members of his Cabinet. Thumping noises in the White House library indicate that Roosevelt is being thrown around the room by a Japanese wrestler; a particularly seismographic crash, which makes...
Goal Setting for the Month of January
People tell me that it’s easier to accomplish your goals if you write them down. I believe that. I also believe that it’s impossible for me to actually follow any new years resolution; I don’t have the will-power to keep something going for an entire year. It’s much more realistic to attain small goals in shorter period of time. So here it goes for the month of January

Still awake.
The apocalyptic blizzard knocked out the satellite, so I don’t have trashy televisions to entertain me. Now the wind is forcing me to hear it howl.
But who am I to complain. I have shelter, a warm, feathery blanket, a sea of pillows, a glass of chardonnay, low lighting, and cubes of cheese.
The holiday razzle dazzle has subsided, and now a frightening sense of peace...

An Atheist's Sentiment...
I don’t agree with all of Ricky Gervais’s sayings, but I do agree with the following
“Do unto others…” is a good rule of thumb. I live by that. Forgiveness is probably the greatest virtue there is. But that’s exactly what it is -‐ a virtue. Not just a Christian virtue. No one owns being good. I’m good. I just don’t believe I’ll be rewarded for it in heaven. My reward is here and...
War and Peace
I’m reading Theodore Roosevelt’s biography, and I came across this quote
“A just war is in the long run far better for a man’s soul than the most prosperous peace.”
Roosevelt had a penchant for aggression, so this statement was not surprising.
As a pacifist, I do not share the same adoration for violence, but I do agree with what he said.
Let’s dissect...

1. Toska
Russian – Vladmir Nabokov describes it best: “No single word in English renders all the shades of toska. At its deepest and most painful, it is a sensation of great spiritual anguish, often without any specific cause. At less morbid levels it is a dull ache of the soul, a longing with nothing to long for, a sick pining, a vague restlessness, mental throes, yearning. In ...

It’s pouring freezing rain outside. It’s nice that nature always gives me an excuse to surround myself with comfort in my favorite place - indoors.
I’m a homebody. I like shelter, and walls, and ceilings, and hot cocoa.
But now I’m planning on a grand adventurer for next summer - finally getting out of my comfort zone to do, and see, something absolutely amazing.

Unworthy
My Pandora suddenly began playing the Shins, “Caring is Creepy,” one of my favorite songs from high school. I haven’t listened to it in a while.
I shuddered. The sound was haunting. I immediately turned it off, feeling like I did not deserve the moment to enjoy the song the way it should be enjoyed.
How odd.
